Writing
Mikron's past is closely linked to the history of the ballpoint pen. Since the early stages of the ballpoint pen, Mikron has developed machinery to make tips and to fill reservoirs.
Ballpoint pen tips are produced at rates of 80 pieces/min (stainless steel in single cycle) up to 300 pieces/min (nickel silver or brass in double-cycle operation). 95% of all ballpoint pen tips produced worldwide are manufactured with Mikron production equipment, making Mikron the unchallenged leader in this sector. The automatic production machines made by Mikron cover the complete range of tip and refill manufacturing:
- TR-42 and RP-32 cold forming machines
- Multistar rotary transfer machines
- ATW-10 writing test machines
Tip manufacturing
Ballpoint pen tips, whether made from brass, nickel silver or stainless steel are efficiently produced on Multistar high-precision machines. Tips are made automatically from cold formed blanks or directly from wire stock. Production output ranges from 80 to 300 finished tips per minute. Mikron machines produce to the most demanding tolerances in the industry and are best suited to produce not only ordinary ball pen tips but also close-tolerance rollerball and gel ink tips.
Mikron holds a leading position in systems for high-volume production of components for the writing instrument industry, such as collets and bushings for mechanical pencils. These workpieces are machined on Multistar high-speed rotary transfer machines at a very high rate and with excellent accuracy based on the most demanding quality requirements.
Mechanical pencils use lead in various diameters, and each pencil is designed to be used only with one lead size. The 0.5 mm lead is most commonly used for writing.
ATW-10 writing test machine
Machine for testing the writing quality of reservoirs. This machine simultaneously tests ten refills at different writing angles between 60 degrees and 90 degrees. The recording mechanism enables the "writing distance" to be read off in meters by means of a recording instrument directly connected to the paper feed.Bosch
