CrazyMill Cool – A small tool at the top!
Agno, November 2014. CrazyMill Cool is the most outstanding innovation to have emerged from Switzerland’s manufacturing industry in the past two years. That is the opinion of the judges responsible for the Prodex Award, Switzerland’s most prestigious manufacturing and production prize.
The objective for any future-oriented company is to propose innovative products to customers. Receiving an innovation award provides the motivation required to press ahead with future developments. This also applies to Mikron Tool SA Agno, the winner of the 2014 Prodex Award. The prize is awarded during the Prodex fair in Basel every two years and highlights the most innovative products in the area of manufacturing. Any products which have been developed in the last two years are eligible for entry, and they are assessed on their level of innovation, impact on the manufacturing industry, and “wow-factor”. Following a successful 2nd place two years ago, Mikron Tool is now particularly proud to have achieved 1st place.
The Swiss cutting tool producer won with CrazyMill Cool, a small solid carbide end mill. This new tool with a diameter range of 0.3 to 6 mm can be seen as a quantum leap in milling technology. Thanks to new geometry, new coating and integrated cooling, the volume of evacuation, depending on the material, is up to 20 times greater. The crazy mill achieves its maximum performance mainly while machining hard-to-machine materials, such as the various categories of stainless and acid-resistant steels (ferritic, martensitic, austenitic), but also titanium, chrome-cobalt alloys, lead-free brass and superalloys.
Innovations and crazy developments are an important part of Mikron Tool’s company philosophy. For this very reason, all standardized drills and mills have “crazy” in their name. The R&D department is currently focusing on the efficient machining of small and minute diameters in materials which have been a major concern for users to date. “Speed, precision and process security” is the motto here.
